Penalty Crusade
So, I'm listening to The Dalloways' "Penalty Crusade" for a music review for The Californian and I can't decide who lead vocalist Gerhard Enns sounds like. I know it's some 80s artist and it's driving me CRAZY!
The album sort of reminds me of another indie album I loved this year, The Jealous Sound's very 80s, "Kill Them With Kindness," but less bombastic.
I'm still trying to make up my mind about "Penalty Crusade," I'm on my second listen now and it's meshing with me in a Rilo Kiley meets The Jealous Sound and a depressed Jon Brion in the world's most subdued, emo street fight. You know? With a disaffected Aimee Mann standing on the sidelines, nonsecially strumming a guitar, looking on all vacantly into space as Tears for Fears starts crying out of the beautiful misery of it all.
So I think I'm saying that it reminds me of a soundtrack to a Molly Ringwald film, but with better lyrics.
Yeah. I'll work on that. Maybe I'll get a review and an interview with the band in by next week. You can pick up the CD at our local Borders. Check it out.

Molly Ringwald:
"The Breakfast Club" - Well that would be Simple Minds's "Don't you forget about me" was the big 80s single.
My fave: "Pretty in Pink" - Big song would be from OMD's (Orchastra Manuevers in the Dark) big hit "If you leave"
"Sixteen Candles" but I don't know the big song from it
