Rockin' Rodeo Not Rockin'
***UPDATE***Read story here.
***UPDATE*** Rockin' Rodeo can still serve liquor without their cabaret permit, but they still lose all the music, dancing and bands, hence word on the street is they plan to close down and appeal. Apparantly all the ruckus is over wet T-shirt contests and some pictures of them that wound up on KRAB radio.
Word on the street folks is that Rockin' Rodeo has lost it's cabaret permit on Wednesday. BPD says it was revoked due to "numerous condition violations taking place within the establishment." What does that mean?
Well, for starters now they can't play music. You can't dance there and they can't have bands. What's up with that? Right now us Californian folks are trying to find out what the deal is, but what do you think happened? Were things getting too wild in the rodeo? Anyone been there recently?
What do you think?

I went there over the summer with the former Jennifer Hatzman for a gals night out before the big wedding. It was not crowded at all. The karioke had the most people in it. Both sides were pretty dead. They kept asking us to join in on the wet t-shirt contest. We declined so they cancelled it. Not sure on the violations. They were really strict about ids. Did you hear that the old Nile is going to be a night club?

Well, the rumor is that scantily clad women shut it down, so your wet T-shirt story sounds apropos.
And I've been hearing about the Niles being turned into a club for years. Looks like they're finally doing it this time ...

The old owners pulled out of Murphy's and closed it but I'm sure someone else will take the place over. It was a popular bar.
I'll check it out and see if its under new ownership.
And I'm glad you like the column, Kristy.
(Rockin' Lerdo! Good one. I shared that with our police reporter. It got a few chuckles.)

I really do not care if Rock n Rodeo re-opens or not. I love Club Odyssey in the DoubleTree Hotel much better. It is a "real" night club and is a more respectabel place in my opinion. I will be there this weekend!!

I unlike others...actually like Rockin' Rodero. It was a cool club where you could let loose and dance up a storm. I've ran into a lot old friends when I go there. I do not go often, but when I do I have a fun time. It reminds me of the frat parties when I was in college.

Yep! Not surprised. The place went south hard the minute they split the place apart and tried to get gangbangers and country folks together drinking in the same place at the same time. Oil and water my friends. Formular for failure.

I know Martin and Rick will miss the $1 beer night. And I know a couple who love to Karaoke. Is it the sink on the floor that did it? Doe anyone know about that one?

I actually liked Rockin' Rodeo, although I was never there for a wet T-shirt contest. It was a lot of fun to hang out and shoot some pool, dance, and DRINK!! I have a lot of memories there. I HATE Club Odyssey, it's always packed and you can't even get up to the bar for a drink.

The report I heard is the Caberet License was yanks for the wet-T-shirts contestantants actually flashin' buns & boobs. Caberet License=ok to oogle through fabric, but reveal true skin, now you are considered adult entertainment. FYI- They can still serve booze. Liquor License still in place....For a while at least, you'll just be lappin' it up without the music and the GoGo Strobe

if it's the type of crowd that you want to be around go... if not just go somewhere else. it's obviously not doing too bad judging from the parking lot on weds, fri and sat nights. if it's what it sounds like, its just too bad they couldn't keep those girls in the wet t contests from showing stuff they are told not to, it's a wet t contest, not amature night ladies... i guess they should just get rid of it and take the safe route.

I think the Chief Of Police needs a lap dance or something, so he can lighten up.. Sounds to me like the Police Dept. has a severe case of MSB!!
Wet T-Shirt contests and flashing some boobs and ass is no big deal. Everyone is over 21 years of age and those that don't like that kind of thing, well they can go somewhere else.

What's interesting is that apparently Rockin' Rodeo has been in flagrance of the law for years with their wet T-shirt shows and things are just now getting the crack down.
So if they were breaking the law why did law enforcement look the other way for so long?

Fine with me but what will all the lemmings who file in there week after week do? Oh my god, they will actually have to try somewhere else? What a concept.. Bako is lame.

So the Rodeo has shut down, let's see what we are missing out on.. $7 rip off cover charge, $5 beers, arrogant pretentious women, cocky ignorant classless horny guys, rude staff, the same crappy unoriginal music EVERY week, same people EVERY week.. I say good riddance to this stale unoriginal club.

just alittle heads up,they still have concerts there just not as many. and as far as it being shut down, iv been going there for 5 yrs and since they put in metroplis it has gone down hill. they need to go back to country again. bakersfield needs a good country and western bar , im sorry but trouts is the only bar in this town that plays country and has a dance floor and thats saying much. so lets get the country back in bakersfield and maybe open up a nice bar for all our country folk!!!!

This is a good example of the conservative right wing of B-Town using their force to run another business out of business. The police, DA, and other law enforcement agencies have again given the town yet another blackeye. It's surprising they didn't take the management and the employees out and shoot them. I lived there for over 30 years and when people found someplace, (in this case one of the only places left) to have a good time they either pass a law forbidding it or shut it down. I feel sorry for all of you still living there. Maybe it's time for the citizens of Bakersfield to revolt against the local Gestapo and take to the streets.

What a lot of folks don't know about RR is that there are people who aren't trash there taking dance lessons: swing, line, and 2-step. RR is not always filled with trash or putting on trashy shows. It's unfortunate that all the good people that loved going there to dance and learn have lost the spot to do so. BPD should have just slapped RR with some massive fine for breaking the law and let them keep on doing their thing without the trash.

You would think that with a town this size, that they would provide decent entertainment. Bummer that the owners on rocken hodeo didn't have the smarts to keep things decent. If they are going to keep it open, pick a theam and stick to it. You are country or you are not. Don't do both in one. Bad idea.

Ok..I have read everything posted and let me say this..I used to bartend at the Hodeo for a couple years back when it was thumpin..around 1998-2001 and I agree that it has its lame elements and that it's overhyped..but..I gotta give it some props..when I worked there..it was THE PLACE TO GO..you usuallly went there then went downtown ( before dtown turned into a voto/banger wannabe haven ). Tons of hos..live music...it was fun. What would be nice is if somebody would buy it and redo it. I really miss the days when California ave went off...and then there is the old Sharky's days and of course...the best bar Bako ever saw..Panama Jacks...but alas...those are just fond memories now...

Well I like the Rodeo its actually the place to be so I hope it does open up again because Bakersfield doesnt have much to offer when it comes to clubs and the whole mixing Country with Hip-Hop is the best thing because its fun to be able to see normally country ppl on the Hip-Hop side dancing its fun to be able to switch cause I like both kinds of music and the whole wet t-shirt night they have rules and its not the Rodeo's fault that some girls choose not to follow them the ones that dont follow the rules cant win and as for a country bar there are more country bars in Bakersfield than anything but for all u haters out there dont like the Rodeo dont go to the Rodeo that will be best for all of us and for the staff at the Rodeo I have never had a problem with the ppl that work there they are all very nice so ppl dont know what they are talking about

Maybe in the time The Rodeo is closed you should spend it brushing up on your grammar and learn not to write run on sentences. This isn't a text message "ppl".

Ever thought somewhere else could be the "place to be" if you all weren't such tools and went to the same place ALL the time? Typical closed minded Bakersfield people.

Ive been trying to find this site or one like it for years, im actually one of the girls from the web posted photo, my friend called me frantic i think the following week saying there is picture's of us from the contest up!!! I was like no big deal wet tshirt contest right well one of the number one reason's fully nude full bar strip club's aren't permitted and oddly enough i was a stripper at the time, lets just say booze and nudity plus cash prize equals disaster!!! Anyways i went online and looked at the pictures my mouth fell open and i started to crying omg i couldn't believe the pictures, and no full ass or titty was revealed but put a white tee on add ice cold water and well you get my picture also the thong i wore that night was awfully small... i was shocked at the pictures and embarrased at myself and i just thought oh the horror if one of my family members saw, might i add the radio station never once contacted me or any of the other women from the pictures, nor did they have permission to do any thing at all which i never had a problem with at a strip club safety and privacy were always respected and protected, nothing against the radio station either i love them, but this was one major mess up i am sad to be a part of. Still waiting for like a sorry or something from them but i dont think its gonna happen, hey i least i won 200 bucks out of the deal :) Peace!
