The Good Life

Me, photo intern Sarah Gettys and my friends AJ and Alex Nunez got to ride around in a limo and go to bars and clubs for a story. Sarah took some amazing pictures.

"I think we should become rock stars," said Alex.

"I hope I don't get punched," said AJ as we pulled up to Chuy's.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. My job is weird. You can read about our adventure in absurdity in Thursday's entertainment section.

So two barhoppers in limos makes front page of Eye St. But Limosuine Scene provides rides for 60 kids from Bakersfield Boys and Girls and Jamison Center to experience culture nothing is mentioned?

    Interesting...

Well, to respond to what I think you're implying, for one, I'm the entertainment writer. I write stories about night clubs, musicians, theater, fine arts and major acts who come to town. Secondly, the people with Limosine Scene did not contact me for a story on them giving rides to kids. They responded to my night club story I wrote earlier this summer. We talked and we thought this would make a fun story.

Thirdly, I didn't know about the charitable efforts because, quite frankly, in working on a story that is purely about entertainment it did not come up. I think it's a good thing the company does stuff for kids, but that's not an entertainment article. That's a community news article. And the only way the paper finds out about an action such as that is if someone calls or writes us. No one called or wrote to me about their charitable rides asking about a story. Therefore I had no idea they existed. And still, I would have been the wrong person to contact. It would have been a better story for our Class Acts or community news sections.

The story is funny and entertaining however it painfully illustrates the provincial handicap of B-town. We are such hicks.
