The Weave Is Mine

She's pop singer Brandy and she's selling hair weaves. Sweet merciful Lord.

Unbe-weavable!

I received a press kit today for the new "Ultima" hair extensions product made by Japanese company Kaneka, a popular brand of fake hair used by countless black women across America. I was all ready to dump the thing in the garbage when I realized the woman on the press kit was none other than R&B/Pop singing sensation Brandy Norwood. Didn't she used to have a contract with Maybellene or Cover Girl or something? How'd she go from major cosmetic labels to hair weaves? It made me think of that chick I went to college with who's claim to fame was being in a Luster's Pink Moisturizer ad.

Black folks know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, believe me. This is about the equivalent of that only it's for hair weaves. So now, sistas, in beauty shops across America you will be looking at this mug of Brandy as you select your next hair cut and dye job.

I'm sorry that you ...

Seem to be confused ...

It belongs to me ...

The weave is mine!

All right so she looks a little black Barbie doll plasticy, but hey. What's Monica doing? Weave contract is better than nothing even if the photos make her look ridiculous.

Like this one ...

It makes me think of that Vibe Magazine article a few years back on her that talked about how she was the only R&B teen queen who looked "virginal." (They were comparing her to Monica and Aaliyah at the time.) I like how she's trying to pull of sexy but just looks unsexy because Vibe was right. She's a toothpaste girl. But sweet Lord she tried to be vampish. She really, really tried.

Well, they airbrushed the hell out of her on all of these. I mean, she's a pretty girl, but it was just unnecessary. And on the last pic she just looks banged up Barbie doll horrible. That's not selling me that weave. That's making me think that's a cheap, ratty ass weave.

She was like created by Mattel methinks. Let's look for the chip in the back of her neck. Sort of pretty for something made out of polyurethane and silicon....

I heard Brandy on TV saying how much she loves hair, and changing hairstyles and stuff, and that it was Sereena Williams who encouraged her to do this..

and damn its a $2 million dollar contract, one of that labels biggest ventures! I wouldnt mind doing it for that much!

But hey at least she has a sitcom and another album coming out in 06 on top of this!

Lol the article had me laughing...but hey shes getting paid a whopping $2million for this deal so not bad!

least she got a album and sitcom coming out on top of this!

Well, if she's getting $2 mil for it I just have to quote a famous, fictitious stripper, "Make the money, girl. Don't let the money make you."

I'd wear synthetic horse hair too for that kind of cash. I now upgrade the weave campaign from Pink Oil Moisturizer to M.A.C. cosmetics.

And another sitcom? Won't this be sitcom number three for her? Anyone remember "Thea?" And little bro Ray J. is back on TV, ya'll. He's on "One on One." UPN just has so much love to give the Norwood familia.

    Hilarious,
If you go to the Kaneka web site, there's a picture of Barbie!

They use this stuff on dolls too. Too funny for me.

Anyway, this is my first post, spurred on by watching Brandy promote her weaves on the Tyra Banks show.

    Thanks for your great site!
    Natasha

I'm sure that everyone who had something bad to say about Brandy really does'nt know what it's like to have problems with your hair so, stop being a hater!

What a bunch of hating ass women! Be happy for Brandy! At least she is a black beautiful woman who is still doing something positive.
There are a lot of other more perverse ways to make 2 Million dollars. At least she is not selling her soul - like some of the other artists out here.
Be glad for her - not MAD at her!

Brandy is definately doing her thing, and she isn't doing it naked either. She is really being true to the woman that she is. So many black women in the entertainment industry lose track of what they set out to do. Which in many cases is to be a positive influence among our black community.

    Whatever! Who's website is this?
You don't know anything about people of color. She doesn't exactly have 3 thousand deals knocking her door down. You might if you are white (and very very pretty to others-Jessica Simpson, and can sing) or very very light and look white and can act (halle berry) Get real!!!!! And get more educated regarding what is available to black women opposed to white women in Hollywood., It is fun anyway to take pictures and have fun with hair (using it as an accessory and changing it up-Per Star Jones) And Brandy got paid to have fun!!
It's not like she really needs the money. The girrrl is rich! Hey!! So EDUCATE YOURSELF!!!!!!!! Later I gotta go.

I am an absolute Brandy fan! Anything she produces, I try my best to purchase. I don't know what you people are talking about!! She looks great in these pictures! Well, except the last one. Besides if you don't like it, don't buy it, but don't be nasty about one of our black women who's trying to make it. She's rich, and you are what???????? Think about it.

I bought her braiding hair (wavy curl) this weekend, the manufacturers don't put as much hair in the bags and I didn't realize it until I was in the middle of having my hair braided and ran out after two bags (very disappointing). All other leading and generic brands I've used over the years (synthetic and human) have enough in the bag! Thought I'd "help a sistah out" by purchasing her brand and supporting her efforts, but never again :(. Buyer beware.
